Adhesive Bandages

We carry several options in this popular category. Adhesive bandages are workhorse items used for a variety of purposes in medicine. They represent a significant modern improvement on old-fashioned gauze bandages for use in wound dressing, and other applications. The innovation with adhesive bandages is that they feature modern adhesive substances that excel at self-sticking, but also allow for unbinding and subsequent reuse or repositioning. These gentle modern adhesives do not irritate the skin, and hold well even when moist.

Cover-Roll from BSN Medical is one example of this modern improvement on the old gauze wrap. It can be applied directly to the skin, or used as a binding wrap over other, primary dressings. Air and moisture permeable, this latex-free wrap provides good breathability, resulting in reduced perspiration.

Another item in this category is Tensoplast, from BSN Medical. Made with natural latex (also called India rubber), this heavy duty elastic adhesive bandage also features zinc oxide, for superior wound healing. Research indicates that zinc-impregnated dressings may help accelerate or facilitate the wound healing process. More than 300 of the body’s natural enzymes, including many that are important to the functioning of the immune system, rely on the availability of elemental zinc. Due to the incorporation of natural latex elastic, this bandage is not recommended for people with latex allergy.

From manufacturer Lohmann & Rauscher, we have Porelast. As the name implies, this is an elastic adhesive bandage material with preserved pores that allow for the evaporation of perspiration to help resist moisture buildup on the skin and maintain patient comfort. This enables patients to continue wearing this bandage, even during sleep. Latex-free, this adhesive bandage option is available in widths ranging from 6 cm to 10 cm (approximately 2.4 inches to 3.9 inches).

We also stock Mollelast Haft, From Lohmann & Rauscher, although this product has been discontinued, and only limited supplies remain.
