Lymphedema bandages are referred to as short stretch because when compared to a traditional ace bandage, they only stretch an additional 50% of their length. A typical ace bandage can stretch up to an additional 300% of its length. Short stretch bandages contain no rubber threads so they generate comfortable, safer pressures. Because short stretch bandages do not contain rubber, they do not create any of the typical constriction problems associated with highly elastic bandages.

When to Take Measurements
It is important that the edema is at its most reduced state. Most often this is found first thing in the morning or at the end of treatment.

Measurement Points
Length measurements should be taken at each circumference. It is recommended that you mark the leg with a non-permanent, non-toxic marker at each circumference measurement made. The length measurement is then taken even with the floor, along the inside of the leg, up to each circumference point.
